A recent study reveals that dogs have a particular affinity for female voices and high-pitched tones, akin to how human babies respond to ‘baby talk.’ Researchers from the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience and Eötvös Loránd University found that dogs, much like infants, exhibit heightened auditory cortex activity when exposed to exaggerated voices used for pets or babies, particularly when the speaker is female. The study, conducted with 19 family dogs, suggests that dogs’ sensitivity to such speech may be due to the way women often speak to them. This intriguing similarity between dogs and infants warrants further investigation into our furry friends’ unique communication preferences.
