Broiler Chicken Energy Metabolism: Body Weight and Temperature Effects

This study investigates the relationship between body weight (BW), environmental temperature (T), and energy metabolism in broiler chickens. Using respirometry chambers and calorimetry, researchers measured fasting heat production (FHP) in 76 groups of male Cobb 500 broiler chickens subjected to various temperatures. A simultaneous model was developed, revealing that as BW increases, the critical temperature (CT) decreases, impacting energy metabolism. The findings provide insights into the complex interplay between body weight, temperature, and energy expenditure in broiler chickens, with implications for their husbandry and nutrition.
