Effective Strategies for Managing Bartholin’s Duct Cysts and Gland Abscesses

Bartholin’s duct cysts and gland abscesses are common problems that can affect women of reproductive age. Cysts are usually asymptomatic, but they can become enlarged or infected and cause significant pain and discomfort. Abscesses are always painful and require medical treatment.
There are a number of effective strategies for managing Bartholin’s duct cysts and gland abscesses. Home management includes sitz baths and over-the-counter pain relievers. If home management is not effective, or if the cyst or abscess is infected, medical treatment may be necessary. This may include incision and drainage, Word catheter placement, or marsupialization.
