Scientists developed a microscope that can image amyloid proteins in cells. FBS-IDT uses mid-IR photothermal imaging & fluorescence imaging to visualize the β-sheet structure of tau fibrils, a type of amyloid protein aggregate linked to Alzheimer’s. The development could help understand amyloid protein formation & aggregation, leading to new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

Cancer stem cells impact macrophage aging in tumors.
Cancer stem cells influence macrophage aging by altering their function and behavior within the tumor microenvironment. These cancer cells release various factors and signaling molecules that interact with macrophages, inducing their phenotype and function changes. This interaction promotes the transformation of macrophages into an aging phenotype, impairing their immune response and altering their behavior toward […]
TAVR Triumph: A Paradigm Shift in Aortic Stenosis Treatment for the Young at Heart
Aortic stenosis is a narrowing of the aortic valve, which is one of the four valves in the heart. This narrowing can prevent the valve from fully opening, which can impede the flow of blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Symptoms of aortic stenosis can include chest pain, shortness of breath, […]
Microbial Spoilage in Vacuum-Packaged Lamb
In vacuum-packaged lamb at pH 5.5 to 6.5 and chilled temps (-1.5 to 7°C), Brochothrix thermosphacta, Serratia proteamaculans, and Rahnella aquatilis grew and caused spoilage over 84 days, contradicting prior beef models. These bacteria, often linked to spoilage, flourished despite low pH conditions, suggesting potential economic and quality implications in the prolonged shipping of vacuum-packed […]
