New method for 3D chemical imaging of amyloid protein aggregates in cells

Scientists developed a microscope that can image amyloid proteins in cells. FBS-IDT uses mid-IR photothermal imaging & fluorescence imaging to visualize the β-sheet structure of tau fibrils, a type of amyloid protein aggregate linked to Alzheimer’s. The development could help understand amyloid protein formation & aggregation, leading to new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
