Thermochemical treatment is a technique of heat treatment of metal that adopts chemical reactions and sometimes physical methods to change the chemical composition and structure of the surface of steel pieces in order to obtain better technical and economic benefits than those of homogeneous materials. Steel pieces processed through thermochemical treatment can be considered as special composite materials. With the treatment, the surface of the steel whose core has the original composition becomes the material infiltrated with alloying elements.

Micro-Indentation and Multi-Scale Simulations: A Powerful Combination for Unraveling the Material Secrets of Composite Coatings
Scientists have developed a powerful new approach to understand the material properties of composite coatings. This approach combines micro-indentation experiments with multi-scale simulations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the coating’s mechanical behavior. Here’s how it works: Micro-indentation: A small force is applied to the coating’s surface and the resulting indentation is measured. This provides insights […]
Unveiling the Future of Hydrogen Production: CNT-ZnO Core-Shell Photoanodes in Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting
Hydrogen is considered to be a very efficient and clean fuel since it is a renewable and non-polluting gas with a high energy density; thus, it has drawn much attention as an alternative fuel, in order to alleviate the issue of global warming caused by the excess use of fossil fuels. In this work, a […]
The preparation of hydrophobic hybrid film coatings from siloxane-modified polyacrylate associated with nano-fumed silica and organo-modified clay
Superhydrophobic hybrid film coatings were developed by applying siloxane-modified polyacrylate in conjunction with organo-modified clay (OMC-20A) and hydrophobic-fumed silica (FS-H15) to glass and cement boards using a dipping process. The study investigated the hydrophobic properties, surface morphology, surface energy, and surface roughness of these hybrid film coatings (HBFCs). The findings highlighted a direct relationship between […]
