A new study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that whole grains can significantly reduce LDL cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and the ratio of total to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in children. Whole grain diets were additionally found to promote the growth of beneficial gut microbiota and reduce fatigue without any negative impacts on child health.

The study, which was conducted at the University of Copenhagen, compared the cardiovascular outcomes of refined grains to wholegrains in Danish children. Researchers found that children who consumed a wholegrain diet had significant improvements in their lipid profiles and gut health.
The study’s findings suggest that whole grains are a healthy choice for children and may help to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease later in life.
