Scientists at Scripps Research have discovered a new way to fight age-related diseases. They found that a protein called DELE1 forms a cylindrical structure that is necessary to activate the cell’s integrated stress response (ISR). The ISR is a critical pathway that helps our cells maintain health, but it is impaired in many age-related diseases. The researchers believe that targeting the DELE1 protein could lead to new treatments for a range of diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and heart disease.
