A new meta-analysis published in Scientific Reports has found that the protein opiorphin may be a valuable biomarker for orofacial conditions, such as chronic pain and oral diseases. The study found that salivary opiorphin levels were elevated in people with orofacial conditions compared to those without. This suggests that opiorphin could help diagnose and monitor orofacial conditions and develop new treatments.
