Lest remains one of the very few words in English with which (in good style) the subjunctive is used, as in she was worrying lest he be attacked (not lest he was…) or she is using headphones lest she disturb anyone (not …lest she disturbs anyone). It is also used with a conditional, as in she is using headphones lest she should disturb anyone.
