News = (1) information about recent and important events: ‘They awaited news of the outcome of the strike.’ (2) previously unknown or new information: ‘It was news to me.’3) information reported in a newspaper or news magazine or a news cast: ‘The news of his marriage was greatly exaggerated.’ (4) a program devoted to current events, often using interviews and commentary: ‘I watch the 7 o’clock news every morning.’

News is an uncountable noun: ‘Why do Clive’s letters never contain any news?’ ‘There’s one piece of news that I’m sure will interest you.’
