Standard English – English editing.

The form of English that is most widely understood across the country. In different regions and social classes different DIALECTS may be used. This means that it is sometimes difficult for a person from one region to understand what is being said by a person from another; a Cornish person, for example, may struggle to understand what is said by someone from Liverpool or Newcastle. This is not just a matter of accent; each dialect has its own distinctive vocabulary and variations of grammar. The problem can be overcome if both speakers can also use standard English. This is the version of English which is described by grammars and other books about language. Expressions and constructions that differ from it are described as ‘non-standard’.
